Without Lindros, Flyers No Match for Montreal

From Associated Press

Saku Koivu and Stephane Richer each had two goals as the Montreal Canadiens ended a drought of nearly two years against Philadelphia by beating the Flyers, 6-5, Saturday in Montreal.

The Flyers, playing without injured all-star center Eric Lindros, had been 8-0-2 against the Canadiens since Montreal’s 5-4 victory Jan. 30, 1994. Lindros, who pulled a groin last month in the World Cup tournament, has not played this season and is out indefinitely.

Washington 6, St. Louis 4--Brett Hull had ended his scoring slump and the Blues had a 4-1 lead after 13 minutes, but Washington was not about to give up on the road.

The loss ruined a four-point game by Hull, who scored for the first time this season at home and assisted on the Blues’ other three goals.

N.Y. Islanders 2, San Jose 2--Owen Nolan’s power-play goal with 5:35 left brought the Sharks back from a two-goal deficit at Nassau Coliseum.

Moog leads active NHL goalies with 332 career wins.

Buffalo 6, Hartford 3--Defenseman Ricard Smehlik had two goals and one assist as the Sabres extended their winning streak to four games and ended the Whalers’ streak at four games in Buffalo.

Smehlik’s two goals were his first of the season and marked only the third time in his career that he scored twice in the same game.
