U.S. Gasoline Prices Jump: Gasoline prices rose nearly a penny a gallon nationwide in the last two weeks, reflecting an increase in crude oil prices, an industry analyst said. The average retail price for all grades, including taxes, was $1.2834 per gallon, according to Friday’s Lundberg Survey of prices at 10,000 gas stations nationwide. The primary reason for the increase is a seasonal boost in crude prices of about $1 per barrel, analyst Trilby Lundberg said. Demand for crude typically increases during winter months as demand for heating oil rises. Average prices in Southern California have been far below the national average recently, in part because of higher supplies available locally.
