Bonnie Maspero, principal of Newport Harbor High School for the past three years, is leaving to become a school district administrator in Los Angeles County.
“This is something I would really like to do,” Maspero said. “I hope that as an administrator I can be a coach to staff people about school improvement.”
As principal at Newport Harbor, Maspero led a campaign to upgrade the school’s technology, instituted new curriculum and started student leadership programs.
“It is light-years different now than when she started,” said Dana Black, a member of Newport Harbor’s site council and newly elected trustee of Newport-Mesa Unified School District. “She is a sharp and strong leader who really knows how to get things done.”
Maspero will leave in January. Her successor has not yet been chosen.
