SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Pepperdine Coach Lorenzo Romar called it a “bad dream,” and it was easy to see why.
The Waves committed 25 turnovers and shot 34% Saturday in a 56-47 loss to Old Dominion in the consolation game of the Carrier Classic.
Pepperdine (1-6), which lost to Syracuse, 77-64, in the opening round Friday, fell behind Old Dominion by as many as 12 points in the first half and never recovered. Pepperdine made only three of 13 three-point shots.
Reggie Bassette scored 17 points and Odell Hodge added 10 for Old Dominion (7-1).
Bryan Hill, who led Pepperdine with 14 points, made two free throws with 2:47 left to pull the Waves to within 51-45. But the Monarchs made a shot and three of six free throws in the final 1:21 to secure the victory.
