Re: “Traveler’s Checks: Going South?” (Sept. 29): We recently returned from a two-week trip to France, Italy and the Netherlands. At the last moment, I decided to buy traveler’s checks.
We have an ATM card through a large branch, but we did not see any PLUS logos on foreign ATMs. Most ATMs were for local customers. The checks really came in handy when we purchased gifts in small stores; no charge to cash them.
If we travel overseas in the future, we will not leave home without them.
