A 50-year-old Fillmore man died Tuesday evening, a few hours after being run over by a slow-moving tractor-trailer truck while he tried to cross California 126.
Allen Wilson was hit about 5:30 p.m. just east of A Street, said Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Peterson, a traffic investigator.
“Traffic wasn’t going more than 25 mph,” Peterson said. “The driver said he was going about 10 mph but didn’t see [Wilson].”
The driver, Kelly Meyers, 28, of Ozark, Mo., told deputies he didn’t see Wilson until he was already in front of his truck.
“He saw him in the middle of the road and then felt a bump,” Peterson said. Meyers was not charged in the incident.
“He hasn’t been charged at this time,” Peterson said. “A preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Wilson was the one at fault.”
Wilson was taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital and died about 8:50 p.m., according to officials at the Ventura County coroner’s office.
