Oxnard police said Sunday that they have arrested a man in the January shooting death of Jose Basilan.
Mario Desequera, 26, of Oxnard surrendered to police in a parking lot at Pleasant Valley Road and Rose Avenue about 9 p.m. Saturday.
According to major crimes Det. Douglas Wiley, police persuaded Desequera to turn himself in peacefully after speaking with him by telephone.
Authorities are still searching for a second suspect, George Doctolero, 19, also of Oxnard.
Police said the two are suspected in the Jan. 19 killing of Basilan, 24, outside John’s Rendezvous Restaurant, in the 3700 block of Saviers Road.
The men had been arguing with a friend of Basilan’s when one of them allegedly pulled out a gun and fired. Basilan’s mother said earlier that he was trying to protect the friend.
Detectives would not say which man pulled the trigger.
