Wolf Puts Fullerton on Empty, 4-2

Left-hander Randy Wolf pitched the ninth complete game of his career and David Matranga hit a fifth-inning grand slam to help Pepperdine snap a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 nonconference victory over Cal State Fullerton on Friday at Malibu.
Wolf (2-1), a 1994 graduate of El Camino Real High, scattered seven hits and had six strikeouts.
Matranga’s fourth homer of the season erased a 2-0 deficit after the Titans scored two runs in the first inning.
It was the first home victory for Pepperdine (3-8) this season.
Cal Lutheran 5, Whittier 3--Tom McGee hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, his sixth in four games, for the Kingsmen (7-2, 4-0) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran.
Richard Bell (3-0) struck out 13 and scattered six hits.
Palomar 4, Pierce 1--Steve Berek struck out 14 and limited the Brahmas (4-7) to five hits in a first-round game at the Grossmont tournament.
Greg Venger had two hits, including a run-scoring double, for Pierce.
Josh Goldberg (1-3) of Pierce allowed five hits and one earned run in seven-plus innings.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Pierce d. El Camino, 10-15, 15-7, 14-16, 16-14, 15-12--Mark Lee had 25 kills and Scott Sheridan, who hit .689, added 20 for the Brahmas (2-0, 2-0) in a South Coast Conference match at Pierce.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Stanford 7, Pepperdine 0--At the USTA/ITA Women’s National Indoor Team Tennis championships in Madison, Wis., the Cardinal (10-0) beat the Waves (5-1) for the 17th consecutive time in head-to-head meetings.
Teryn Ashley defeated Nadine Rastetter, 6-1, 6-1, and teamed with Katie Schulkebir to win their doubles match against Pepperdine’s Zsofia Csapo and Anna Svedenhov, 8-2.
SOFTBALL
Cal Lutheran 7-10, Occidental 5-3--Wendy Jackson had three hits in the first game and Mandi Comer drove in three runs in the second for the Regals (2-0, 2-0) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Cal Lutheran.
