TURLOCK, Calif. — The body of an infant found by a laundry service employee here had been misplaced by a San Francisco hospital, police said Wednesday.
The baby had died at Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco and was somehow placed among the dirty linens picked up by Golden State Services workers, police spokesman Bob Nicholas said.
An employee sorting through the linens uncovered the infant wrapped in baby blankets Tuesday, Nicholas said.
Investigators found a toe tag noting the infant’s death last Friday at the hospital.
“This is a terrible occurrence. We are deeply, deeply apologetic and extend our sincere regrets to the family,” hospital spokeswoman Sara Kelley said.
