Finley Set For First Start of Spring

Left-handed starter Chuck Finley, suffering from a sore shoulder since Feb. 18, is scheduled to make his first start of the spring today against Seattle. Manager Terry Collins said Finley will work only two innings.

Right-hander Mark Gubicza, who also has a sore shoulder, said he hopes to pitch in a game “next week sometime.” Gubicza felt pain in his shoulder after throwing in the bullpen on Wednesday and did not start as scheduled on Thursday. . . . The Angels fell to 0-8 with a 10-0 loss to the San Diego Padres at Tempe Diablo Stadium. . . . Allen Watson started for the Angels and gave up four runs (three earned) on five hits. He had two strikeouts and did not walk a batter in three innings. . . . The Angels also agreed to terms on contracts for 1997 with first baseman Darin Erstad and pitcher Dennis Springer.
