Council to Take Up Carlsberg Park Issue

Concerned about future funding, city staff members have asked the Moorpark City Council to reaffirm its interest in creating another city park.
The council will discuss Wednesday whether to proceed with plans for a 6 1/2-acre park in the Carlsberg development, a 552-home project on the town’s southeast end.
Agreements with the developer, CT Financial, stipulate that the company will design and build the park, which will include a softball field, soccer field and two tennis courts. The company will also maintain the park and its equipment for at least a year after construction.
But after last year’s passage of Proposition 218, a statewide ballot measure limiting local governments’ ability to raise taxes, Moorpark officials are concerned about paying for maintenance of the city’s existing parks, much less new ones. As a result, the city’s interim director of community services asked the City Council to reaffirm its interest in the proposed park.
Should the council agree, the city’s Parks and Recreation Commission will review conceptual designs for the project April 7.
