Police Centers

Re “Police Centers: Outreach or Overreaching?,” March 31.
The concern by the Los Angeles Police Department and City Council that neighborhood mini-stations may be too numerous and costly should not be the issue. Substations placed in shopping malls deter crime and add to security. You would think the malls would underwrite all or part of the cost. The publicity, where there is a robbery or an assault, plays against the malls’ interest in attracting customers.
I suggest the City Council look to business for assistance and leave the Police Department alone.
