Northridge Men Take a Decisive Step

The Cal State Northridge volleyball team moved closer to qualifying for the postseason by upsetting Long Beach State, 15-7, 15-7, 15-6, Saturday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Northridge.
Jason Hughes had 19 kills and Chad Strickland and Collin Smith each added 13 for the Matadors (14-11, 8-9), who had 11 errors and a .474 hitting percentage.
SOFTBALL
Southern California College 4-10, Cal Lutheran 1-7--Donna Scott had two hits for Cal Lutheran in the first game of a nonconference doubleheader.
Moorpark 1, Pierce 0--Lisa DeStefano had the game-winning hit in the fifth inning for host Moorpark (17-15, 7-2) in a Western State Conference game.
