London-based Tomkins said it agreed to acquire Stant Corp. of Indiana for $606 million, or $21.50 a share, in stock and assumed debt, adding a leading maker of automotive windshield wipers and blades to its businesses. . . . Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy Co. was profitable in the fiscal fourth quarter, countering expectations of a loss. Net income fell 57% to $8.5 million, or 20 cents a share, from the year-earlier $19.8 million, or 46 cents. It was expected to have a loss of 1 cent a share. . . . Citicorp managers have testified before a grand jury probing allegations of possible money laundering involving former Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari’s brother, Citicorp Chief Executive John Reed told a shareholders’ meeting. He neither identified the executives nor said how many had given secret testimony but emphasized that the company was cooperating fully with the grand jury. . . . As expected, the Federal Trade Commission filed an antitrust lawsuit seeking to block Staples Inc.’s proposed $4-billion purchase of rival Office Depot Inc.
