‘Married’ a Comedic Gem

I’ve been a great fan of “Married . . . With Children” since 1990 (“So Long, Al! See Ya, Peg,” May 5). Too bad it was trashed by critics and others who failed to recognize what it really was: a commentary on modern life and current times that worked on different levels. Sadly, in the oppressively literal ‘90s, the concept of satire has pretty much been abandoned.
The show was truly funny, especially in its middle years when the cast and creative team had become a unit. Al’s speeches and exhortations, Marcy’s childhood reminiscences, Peggy’s fixations, Kelly’s alienation, Bud’s frustrations and Buck’s reasonableness amid human dysfunction are comedic gems.
If ever given a choice of people in entertainment with whom I could spend some time, I’ll scrap anyone’s A-list faster than Bud’s dates ditched him, in favor of “MWC” writers Katherine Green, Ellen Fogle, Kim Weiskopf and Stacy Lipp.
