Another Sweet 16 Help Hart’s Graves to Victory

A week after striking out 16 batters in a game, Hart High’s Bobby Graves did it again Friday, fanning 16 in a 7-0 Foothil League victory over Valencia at Hart.
Graves, who dazzled Canyon last week, pitched a two-hitter and did not walk a batter. The senior left-hander, who has a scholarship to Oklahoma, has struck out 110 batters in 64 innings this season.
Cody Joyce had three hits, including a three-run home run for Hart (16-8, 10-3), which remained one game behind Burroughs.
Burroughs 13, Saugus 1--Wes Hutchison pitched a four-hitter, striking out six and walking one, and drove in five runs for the Indians in a Foothill League game at Saugus (12-10-1, 8-5).
Hutchison (9-2) hit his fifth home run for Burroughs (15-7, 11-2).
Burbank 7, Canyon 6--Mike Lizarraga had three hits and three RBIs, including a run-scoring single in the seventh, for the Bulldogs in a Foothill League game at Burbank.
Corry Parrott had three hits, including a solo home run, and scored three runs for Burbank (4-18, 2-11).
Antelope Valley 10-22, Littlerock 0-1--Jeremy Holiday (9-4) pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and Brian Scoles (3-1) came back with a four-hitter in the second game for the Antelopes in a Golden League doubleheader.
Antelope Valley (16-8, 9-1) clinched a share of the league title with two league games left.
Quartz Hill 7, Highland 5--Mark Madsen allowed only three baserunners in the first six innings for the Rebels (12-9, 4-7) in a Golden League game at Quartz Hill.
Parker Metheny had three hits, including two doubles for Quartz Hill.
Madsen struck out nine, walked one and gave up 10 hits.
Santa Barbara 1, Hueneme 0--Ryan Stonefelt’s leadoff home run in the eighth lifted the Dons in a Channel League upset of the Vikings (15-7, 9-3).
Hueneme remained one game ahead of Rio Mesa, which lost to last-place Oxnard.
Pedro Cervantes of Hueneme allowed four hits in six innings, striking out four. He was relieved by Chris Neri (2-2).
Camarillo 5, Simi Valley 2--Joe Borchard (6-2) pitched an eight-hitter in his first complete game of the season, striking out eight and walking none while allowing one earned run for the Scorpions (20-5-1, 9-2-1).
Borchard and Shane Miranda each had two doubles and an RBI.
Andrew Karp had two hits for Simi Valley (14-10, 6-6).
Westlake 12, Agoura 6--Kevin Howard and Troy Soukup each had three hits for the Warriors (14-7-1, 7-4-1) in a Marmonte League game at Agoura.
Nick Gontmaher had three hits for Agoura (10-12, 5-7).
Royal 8, Channel Islands 2--Matt Rainer (7-1) pitched a four-hitter, striking out four, walking two and allowing two unearned runs for the Highlanders (14-7, 10-2) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
Newbury Park 3, Thousand Oaks 2--Ryan Shipton’s seventh-inning single drove in Jon Spencer with the winning run for the Panthers (13-11, 5-7) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Shipton and Jake Farrel each had two hits for the Panthers, who have won five consecutive games.
Newbury Park’s Chris Thogersen pitched a six-hitter, striking out 12, walking two and allowing two earned runs.
Chaminade 12, Loyola 5--Mike Whitaker, Chris Gray and Tyler Dersom each had three hits to help the Eagles (22-2, 8-2) avenge a 5-2 loss to the Cubs (11-13, 5-5) on Tuesday.
Whitaker had four RBIs for Chaminade, Gray had three RBIs and scored a run and Dersom had two RBIs and scored three times.
Dersom earned his fifth save.
Calabasas 3, Moorpark 2--The Musketeers had the potential tying run on second base with none out in the top of the seventh inning but couldn’t get the key hit in a Frontier League game at Calabasas.
Matt Sagoian (7-0) struck out eight and walked three in six innings, and Frank Carlisi earned his sixth save for Calabasas (22-2, 13-0).
Justin Ames had three hits for Moorpark (14-9, 9-4).
Alemany 13, St. Francis 4--Joe Melaragno (5-3) pitched a 10-hitter for the Indians (12-11, 5-7) in a Mission League game at Occidental College.
Alemany’s Chris Dominique was four for four.
Crespi 9, Montclair Prep 2--Brian Felten (8-1) allowed two earned runs on four hits in five innings for the Celts (17-8) at Valley College.
Nordhoff 6, Santa Clara 4--Russell Farrar’s two-run homer gave the Rangers a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning of a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.
Fillmore 9, St. Bonaventure 8--Martin Morales doubled home Milan Gentry in the bottom of the seventh for the Flashes (10-8, 6-5) in a Tri-Valley League game at Fillmore.
