CS Northridge Might Have Addition by Subtraction

The future of several men’s programs at Cal State Northridge should be determined in about a month, when administrators consider options Athletic Director Paul Bubb will present in a report on how the school can meet gender-equity requirements that take effect in the fall of 1998.

Bubb, who has not completed his report, said the options include eliminating one or more non-Big Sky Conference men’s teams or adding women’s teams.

With 23 football scholarships to be added in two years, as mandated by the Big Sky, Northridge must add equal women’s scholarships or cut from men’s sports to remain in compliance with gender-equity regulations.
