Falcons Make a Big Splash in Pacific

Crescenta Valley High broke six Pacific League swimming records and won its fifth consecutive league title Friday at Arcadia High.
Sophomore Kenny Carpenter set league records in the 100-yard butterfly (51:34) and 100 backstroke (53.88) for the Falcons.
Steve Kim set a league record in the 200 freestyle, finishing in 1:44.56, and Evan Robb set the standard in the 200 individual medley, timing 1:56.65.
Channel League Finals--Rebecca Gilman of Buena out-dueled Alexis Binder of Santa Barbara to win the 200 and 500 individual medleys at UC Santa Barbara.
Gilman, who won both events at the last three Southern Section Division I championships, finished in 1:53.28 in the 200, beating Binder by less than a second. Gilman out-touched Binder in the 500 in 4:55.86, winning by .27 seconds.
Buena senior Liah Kim posted victories in the 200 individual medley (2:07.63) and 100 butterfly (57.9) to help the Bulldogs finish with 288 points, defeating second-place Dos Pueblos by 68.
In the boys’ finals, Matt Carter of Buena won the 200 individual medley in 1:59.71 and 100 butterfly in 54.41 to help Buena to 264 points and the league title by 33 points over San Marcos..
Marmonte League Finals--Kevin Paul and Jason Weber each won two events for Westlake at Rancho Simi Community Pool.
Westlake finished with 460 points in the boys’ finals, defeating Thousand Oaks by 63.5 points and earning a share of the league championship with the Lancers, who won the regular-season title.
Noah Cirincione of Agoura set meet records of 21.44 in the 50 freestyle and 47.17 in the 100 freestyle.
Jamie McIntyre and Ingrid Salazar of Royal each won two individual events but Westlake won the girls’ title with 449 points.
Foothill League Finals--Anthony Ervin set a league record of 21.51 in the 50 freestyle to help Hart win its first boys’ title since 1990 at Valley College.
Monica Oleksyn finished the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.21, breaking her league record and leading Hart to its 16th consecutive girls’ title. Heather Boylan of Saugus timed 1:55.04 in the 200 freestyle.
