Right-hander Rob Luce became the California League’s first six-game winner, giving up two runs in seven innings and leading the Lancaster JetHawks to a 7-2 victory over the Modesto A’s at John Thurman Stadium in Modesto.

Luce (6-1), a second-year pro who only made the rotation because of an injury to another pitcher, has been the team’s most effective starter. On Sunday he scattered 10 hits and did not walk a batter. In eight starts, he has allowed two earned runs or fewer seven times.

The JetHawks (19-18) broke the game open with a four-run second inning. James Clifford led off with his team-leading seventh home run. The A’s then made three errors in the inning that led to three unearned runs.

Catcher A.J. Hinch, former U.S. Olympic standout, hit his sixth homer for Modesto.

The JetHawks conclude the three-game series in Modesto with a game at 7:05 tonight.
