Rapper’s Bodyguard to Stand Trial

TIMES STAFF WRITER

A judge ordered rapper Snoop Doggy Dogg’s bodyguard to stand trial on a stalking charge after his former girlfriend testified that he followed her, made unwanted phone calls and at one point assaulted her and another man while they were in her townhouse.

McKinley Malik Lee, 27, will be arraigned May 27 in Superior Court and if convicted could face a maximum of three years in prison.

Earlier this year, Lee pleaded no contest to the stalking charge, but withdrew the plea out of concern that he could be sent to prison for violating the terms of the deal.

In a preliminary hearing Tuesday, his former girlfriend and primary accuser recounted how she met Lee in early 1996, before he was acquitted along with Snoop Doggy Dogg in the 1993 shooting death of a man in West Los Angeles. But the Van Nuys woman said that the relationship fell apart after several months because Lee began to get “too possessive” and follow her.

According to the 25-year-old woman, Lee made repeated attempts to contact her by phone and popped up unannounced at her home and workplace.

She testified that Lee broke through a locked sliding glass door on the second story of her town house, chased her male friend down the stairs, beat her head against the ground and threatened to kill her with his gun.

Lee reacted to the testimony by shaking his head incredulously, and closing his eyes.
