Granada Hills Advances to 4-A Volleyball Final

Chris Tran had 16 kills and Paul DiSimone added 15 kills and 10 blocks for Granada Hills High in a 15-12, 5-15, 15-8, 15-11 victory over Venice in a City Section 4-A Division boys’ volleyball semifinal Wednesday night at Granada Hills.

Shawn Litchfield added 13 kills for the top-seeded Highlanders (16-0), who play Palisades, a 17-15, 15-7, 15-6 winner over University, in the championship on Friday at 8 p.m. at Occidental College.

Eagle Rock d. Grant, 15-2, 15-7, 15-5--Andy Rivera led Eagle Rock (16-0) with 23 kills and Albert Coba had 43 assists in a 3-A semifinal at Eagle Rock. Grant finished 10-3.

Palmdale d. Hart, 15-10, 15-11, 15-3--Aaron Winchester had 19 kills, Arron Mezey had 14 kills and Aaron Halcomb had seven kills and seven blocks for the Falcons (9-6) in a Southern Section Division I wild-card match at Hart (9-6).

TENNIS

Pacific League tournament--Glendale High senior Ji Chung defeated two-time defending league champion Danny Kim of Hoover, 6-2, 6-3, at Pasadena High to win the individual title.

Chung, who defeated Kim 6-2 and 6-1 in regular-season matches, avenged a loss to Kim in the 1995 final. He is 54-0.

Rio Hondo League tournament--San Marino’s Zoran Korac defeated La Canada’s Parker Collins, 0-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, for the singles championship.

In the doubles semifinals, San Marino’s Justin Gu and Derek Tsu beat La Canada’s Ed Kim and Sung Kim, 6-0, 7-5.
