Disabled Children to Join Soccer Team
A soccer team for children in Moorpark and Simi Valley who are physically and mentally disabled is entering its second year.
Parents interested in enrolling their children on the team, which is part of the nationwide American Youth Soccer Organization, can attend an informational meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Thousand Oaks Community Center.
The team practices once a week, with games held Saturdays at Moorpark’s Arroyo Vista Recreation Center.
Interested children do not need game experience. The volunteer coaches have experience teaching children with special needs and will train all team members in the basic rules and techniques of soccer.
Registration is open to children ages 5 through 18 and costs $60, which includes a uniform, awards and league fees. Scholarships are available.
Parents can register their children at tonight’s meeting or at one of the registration sessions at the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 31.
