Six cantors from Jewish congregations across the Southland will gather Sunday night at Temple Beth David in Westminster for a concert featuring music from opera to Broadway.
Cantor Lisa Sharlin from Temple Beth David will be joined by her father, Cantor Emeritus William Sharlin of Leo Black Temple in Los Angles and Cantor Shula Kalir-Merton from Aliso Viejo’s Temple Beth El. Also on the program are Cantor Nathan Lam from Stephen S. Wise Temple in Los Angeles, one of the largest in the nation, Cantor Mark Saltzman from Santa Monica’s Sha’arei Am, and Cantor Kathy Robbins from Temple Solei in Encinitas.
Each cantor has been trained in an assortment of musical techniques. Saltzman is a sought-after opera singer and Lam has appeared in a variety of opera and other musical performances and has coached Kenny Rogers, Dinah Shore, Motley Crue and Rita Moreno.
The concert will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Temple Beth David, 6100 Hefley St. Tickets are $20, $40 and $100 and will be available at the door. A “chocolate extravaganza”--an array of desserts--will be available after the performance.
