Harvey Hits 14th Homer to Set O.C. Record

Laguna Hills’ Nick Harvey set the Orange County single-season record for home runs with 14 but visiting Aliso Niguel won, 8-7, in a Pacific Coast League baseball game Thursday.

Harvey, a senior first baseman, hit his home run in the seventh to surpass Fullerton’s D.C. Olsen, who had 13 in 1990.

Ryan Devine drove in three runs with two doubles, and Jeff Campbell had two hits and three RBIs for Aliso Niguel.

In other league games:

University 18, Estancia 0--Mike Gamble pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts as University defeated Estancia (3-20-1, 1-13-1). The victory and a Laguna Hills loss gave University (19-7, 12-3) its second league title in three years.

Garrett Atkins had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for University (19-7, 12-3).

Laguna Beach 9, Costa Mesa 0--Kraigher O’Keefe (4-5) pitched five innings, striking out five and walking two for Laguna Beach (12-13, 7-8). Mike Labeda had two doubles, a home run and three RBIs for the Artists.

In the Century League:

Foothill 7, Canyon 6--Foothill (19-6, 13-2) captured its first league title since 1988. Tyler Lang doubled to lead off the fifth, then scored the tying run on a single by Austen Verst. After a sacrifice, Mike Gettman singled in Verst to give ninth-ranked Foothill a 7-6 lead.

Villa Park 10, El Modena 3--Matt Boone had a triple, home run and four RBIs for Villa Park (12-13, 8-7).

Santa Ana Valley 8, Orange 7--Rollie Ramirez had the game-winning single, driving in Jessie Gomez to cap a three-run seventh for host Santa Ana Valley (13-12, 6-9).

In the Empire League:

Katella 6, Century 0--Keawe Kuehnel (5-7) pitched a no-hitter, striking out six and walking one for Katella (14-12, 6-9).

Cypress 10, Loara 1--Phil Seibel struck out 10 for Cypress (11-4 in league).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 4, Buena Park 3--David Coughlin pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings to post his first save for Sunny Hills (8-17, 6-9).

La Habra 8, Fullerton 5--David Correa hit a grand slam in the fifth giving him 32 RBIs this season for La Habra (16-7, 9-6), which clinched second place in league.

Sonora 7, Troy 0--Jeremy Weinberg pitched a two-hitter and struck out 11 for fifth-ranked Sonora (22-3, 14-1).

In the Garden Grove:

Bolsa Grande 8, La Quinta 7 (9)--Gus DeLeon’s grand slam in the top of the seventh tied the score, 7-7, and DeLeon won it with a sacrifice fly in the ninth for Bolsa Grande (19-6, 9-3).

Garden Grove 8, Rancho Alamitos 2--Justin Clarkson pitched an eight-hitter with five strikeouts for visiting Garden Grove (8-14, 6-6).

Santiago 10, Los Amigos 4--Tito Sutherland doubled three times and drove in three runs for Santiago (4-20, 2-10).

In the Golden West League:

Servite 9, Westminster 7--Greg Cicero was three for four with a home run and three RBIs for Servite (23-3, 14-1).

Tustin 7, Santa Ana 1--Elmer Roldan had a home run and a double in a victory for Tustin.

In the Olympic League:

Brethren Christian 4, Cerritos Valley Christian 0--Jonathan Rouwenhorst pitched a three-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts for Brethren Christian (18-7, 11-4).

In the Sea View League:

Irvine 7, El Toro 5--Matt Brundage pitched a complete game for Irvine (17-9, 11-4), which won its second consecutive league title.

Santa Margarita 8, Corona del Mar 4--Mike LaRue hit his 13th home run and added a double and three RBIs for host Santa Margarita (19-7, 10-5).

Newport Harbor 5, Woodbridge 2--Garrett Nuzum held Woodbridge to two runs on seven hits and struck out 11 for Newport Harbor (8-16, 4-11).

Mater Dei 6, Capistrano Valley 3--Brett Kay had a home run for Mater Dei (22-3, 15-0).

San Clemente 3, Dana Hills 2 (8)--Chris Dzandzara singled in the winning run in the eighth for host San Clemente (13-12, 8-7).

In the Express League:

Heritage Christian 17, Norwalk Pioneer Baptist 16--Heritage Christian (15-4, 8-0) scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh and clinched the league title.
