Yosemite Valley Highway to Reopen Around the Clock

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK — Flood-ravaged California 140 into Yosemite Valley will reopen Friday, just in time for the busy Memorial Day weekend.
Portions of the highway were closed by severe flooding from the Merced River in January. In March, park officials started allowing tourists to use the route on Saturdays and evenings so repair work could continue the rest of the time.
As of noon Friday, however, all of the highway from Merced through El Portal and into Yosemite Valley will be open all the time until permanent repairs are undertaken in October.
Visitors also may use the California 120 entrance from the north or the California 41 entrance from Fresno to the south. However, the Tioga Pass section of California 120 across the Sierra to the east will remain closed by snow, probably until mid-June.
