Video Tour: Alanis Morissette will follow up her 12-million-selling album “Jagged Little Pill” with “Jagged Little Pill, Live,” a 90-minute video featuring in-concert and behind-the-scenes footage from her 18-month world concert tour. The video’s July 1 release date marks the second anniversary of the tour’s launch in Madison, Wis. “My motivation for creating this [video] was initially to have something for myself to keep as a souvenir,” Morissette said. “[But] as it was nearing its completion, I felt the urge to share it with others. . . . It captures being on the road during a time where the illusion taunted my/our growth and where the seductive and somewhat unrealistic aspects of our lifestyles tested us daily. . . . I did my best to show the different mind-sets, moods, coping mechanisms and humor that carried us through months of extremes.” The video will sell for a suggested retail price of $19.98 ($24.98 for DVD) and includes performances of every song on the “Jagged Little Pill” album.

Back to School: High school seniors in Grand Forks, N.D., whose senior proms were canceled due to the recent disastrous floods will get a makeup night--with the rock group Soul Asylum stepping in as the prom band. The Minneapolis-based group, rather than just playing its own songs, is soliciting requests from students of the four schools that will be teamed up for the event, to be held June 28 in a hangar at Grand Forks Air Force Base. Among the choices are the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive,” Abba’s “Dancing Queen,” Chris De Burgh’s “The Lady in Red” and the Spice Girls’ current smash, “Wannabe.” And yes, the band will be wearing tuxedos--though there’s no word if they’ll be powder-blue.

Local Obie Ties: The New York productions of two shows that were also seen locally were among those receiving Obie Awards this week from the Village Voice. David Henry Hwang received a writing award for “Golden Child,” which ran at South Coast Repertory earlier this year, and the production’s Tsai Chin received an Obie for her performance as First Wife. “A Huey P. Newton Story,” previously seen at the Actors’ Gang Theater, received Obies for creator-performer Roger Guenveur Smith and music and sound designer Marc Anthony Thompson.

Playing for Peace: Violinist Yehudi Menuhin and cellist Mstislav Rostropovich were named co-winners of the Spanish equivalent of the Nobel Prize Friday for the “universality” of their music and their contribution to freedom. The two received $35,000 Prince of Asturias Concord Prizes for “contributing with their music to the harmony and concord of the world.” Former winners of the prize, which also includes a sculpture by Spanish artist Joan Miro, include King Hussein of Jordan and the American Foundation for AIDS Research, both honored for fostering international understanding and cooperation.

Ready Those Batons: Ever wanted to command the Hollywood Bowl stage? Classical radio station KKGO-FM (101.5) is sponsoring the 1997 Hollywood Bowl guest conductor contest, the winner of which will conduct “The Star-Spangled Banner” during an upcoming Hollywood Bowl Orchestra concert. Prospective guest conductors can audition on June 7 (11 a.m. and 2 p.m.) and June 8 (11 a.m.) during the sixth annual Hollywood Bowl Arts Fair taking place at the Bowl. Entrants can choose from three musical selections, Bernstein’s “Candide” Overture, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D Minor and Holst’s “Mars, the Bringer of War.”

Breakfast With ‘Batman’: Care for a dose of Bat-marketing with your breakfast? Food manufacturer Kellogg’s has jumped on the “Batman & Robin” bandwagon by creating two new food items to promote the movie’s June 20 opening. Eggo Bat Signal Waffles will have the bat-signal actually embossed on the waffles. And a series of Pop-Tarts will carry special insignia--such as red bat-shaped sprinkles on strawberry tarts and Mr. Freeze-themed blue frosting with “ice crystal” sprinkles on cherry tarts.

KCAL-TV Channel 9 will begin airing the California Lottery on July 1. The station will air the SuperLotto draw live at 7:57 p.m. each Wednesday and Saturday and broadcast the Fantasy 5 and Daily 3 draws daily at 6:59 p.m. In addition, the half-hour “Big Spin” show will air Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. . . . Bugs Bunny isn’t just showing up on postage stamps. The animated character will also be seen in prime time next Saturday when NBC airs the seven-minute, 1992 cartoon short “Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers” at the conclusion of the network’s 9-11 p.m. showing of “Body Snatchers.” . . . Jena Malone, who earned rave reviews for playing an abused teen in Anjelica Huston’s directorial debut, Showtime’s “Bastard Out of Carolina,” will also star in Goldie Hawn’s directorial debut, “Hope,” a TNT movie about a girl who stands up to her bigoted neighbors by telling the truth about a black boy’s death. . . . HBO will air “The Mr. Vegas All-Night Party Starring Drew Carey,” an hourlong comedy special, on June 28. . . . Dave Pasternak of Springfield, Va., has been declared “the ultimate music geek” and winner of Rhino Records’ 1997 Musical Aptitude Test. The SAT-style Internet contest, hosted by radio personality Dr. Demento, drew about 1,250 music fans nationwide.
