CSUN Graduation Ceremonies Planned This Week

Graduation ceremonies at Cal State Northridge begin Tuesday at 5 p.m. with the Honors Convocation at the University Club, on the southeast corner of the campus at 18111 Nordhoff St.

This year’s speaker will be Pulitzer Prize-winning television critic Howard Rosenberg, a veteran Los Angeles Times columnist. Rosenberg is also an adjunct professor in critical studies at CSUN and an adjunct professor in critical studies and journalism at USC.

The formal commencement ceremonies take place throughout the week. An estimated 6,219 students are candidates to receive diplomas--about 5,304 bachelor’s degrees and 915 master’s degrees in 50 fields.

The College of Business Administration and Economics will hold its commencement at 8 a.m. Wednesday on the Oviatt Lawn in the center of campus. Gini Barrett, regional director of the American Humane Assn. and a CSUN alumna, will be the speaker.

The College of Science and Mathematics will hold its commencement at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the University Club. Geneticist Thomas Kaufman, a CSUN alumnus and professor of biology at Indiana University in Bloomington, will be the speaker.

The College of Humanities will hold its commencement at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on the Oviatt Lawn. CSUN English professor John Clendinning will be the speaker.

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will hold its commencement at 8 a.m. Thursday on the Oviatt Lawn. Instead of having a formal commencement speaker, the college will honor founding and emeritus faculty members.

The College of Engineering and Computer Science will hold its commencement at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the University Club. Space shuttle astronaut and CSUN alumnus Scott Horowitz will be the speaker.

The College of Health and Human Development will hold its commencement at 4:30 p.m. Thursday on the Oviatt Lawn. Olympic rower Anita DeFranz will be the speaker.

The College of Arts, Media, and Communication will hold its commencement at 8 a.m. Friday on the Oviatt Lawn. Screenwriter and CSUN alumna Kathy McWorter will be the speaker.

The College of Education will hold its commencement at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the University Club. Ann Lieberman, professor of education at Teachers College of Columbia University and a CSUN master’s graduate, will be the speaker.
