Galaxy update--For the first time this season, Galaxy Coach Lothar Osiander has his entire first team available. No one is injured. No one has a national team game. Now, all Osiander has to do is figure out who to play where. None of the various combinations he has tried so far has proved effective. As a result, the team leads the league in most games lost, fewest games won and fewest goals scored. The Galaxy was 11-5 at the Rose Bowl last year and averaged a league-high 28,000 a game. This year it is 2-3 in Pasadena and is averaging 22,233. The return today of goalkeeper Jorge Campos from Mexico should bring back more fans, as will the return of Mauricio Cienfuegos from World Cup qualifying duty with El Salvador.
Crew update--Columbus is 4-0 at home but 2-4 on the road after its latest setback, a 3-1 loss to the Wizards at Kansas City on Thursday night. Former UCLA and current U.S. national team goalkeeper Brad Friedel is among the league leaders. This will be former Galaxy midfielder Jorge Salcedo’s first game against his old team since he was traded to Columbus. The Crew has outscored opponents, 15-12, with Polish midfielder Robert Warzycha assisting on five of the goals, second best in MLS.
