Former State Official Joins Law Firm

Lloyd W. Aubry Jr., who served as director of the California Department of Industrial Relations for six years until resigning this month, has joined the San Francisco-based law firm Morrison & Foerster. He will be part of the 575-lawyer firm’s labor and employment law practice, working full time under an “of counsel” status. Aubry, 46, a 1975 graduate of the UCLA law school, was the point person for Gov. Pete Wilson in several controversial battles over labor policy. Those include the moves by the Wilson administration to eliminate daily overtime rules, adopt ergonomics regulations and reduce the prevailing wage paid to construction laborers on public works projects--initiatives that all are being legally challenged by organized labor. The current acting director of the DIR is John C. Duncan, who served as Aubry’s chief deputy.
