Reported W. Bank Plan Sparks Outrage

A new crisis erupted in the deadlocked Middle East peace process over reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu plans to hand back to the Palestinians less than 40% of the occupied West Bank. Palestinians voiced outrage over the report in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz that Netanyahu had drawn up a secret plan to retain a majority of the West Bank, where the Palestinians expect to establish a state. Netanyahu acknowledged having some ideas about a final deal and said they were discussed in his Cabinet for the first time Wednesday. He denied having drafted a map.
