For the record, the 1893-1910 edition of the American Film Institute catalog is published by Scarecrow Press and is very much in print (“There at the Creation,” by Kenneth Turan, June 1).
In its “Filmmakers” series, which I edit, Scarecrow has published firsthand accounts of many aspects of silent filmmaking. No matter how good a documentary series, it is still only a collection of short sound bites, whereas an autobiography provides many hours of personal reminiscences.
