More than 20 historic schooners will rendezvous in Penobscot Bay for the 19th annual Great Schooner Race on July 1. Minnesota

For the 49th year, Longfellow’s “Song of Hiawatha” will be enacted by residents of Pipestone. A cast of 200 traditionally costumed actors perform on a natural stage that curves for 300 yards along a tree-lined lake shore. Dates are July 18 to 20, July 25 to 27 and Aug. 1 to 3. New Mexico

The 48th annual Rodeo de Santa Fe, July 9 to 12 at the Santa Fe Rodeo Grounds, is a chance to enjoy a big-time professional rodeo with a small-town feeling. The festivities begin with the Rodeo Parade--with Montie Montana as the grand marshal--through downtown, followed by four days of steer wrestling, calf roping, bareback bronco riding and more. Vermont

The Vermont Quilt Festival, July 18 to 20 at Norwich University in Northfield, is the largest quilting event in New England, usually attracting more than 5,000 visitors. On display: more than 175 new quilts vying for prizes and 90 antique (before 1960) quilts from private collections. Canada

The 30th annual Caribana Festival, July 18 to Aug. 4 in Toronto, brings together the city’s large and diverse Caribbean population for a wild carnival.
