Resident Honored for Saving Man With CPR

The Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross honored Huntington Beach resident Cathy Andrew on Wednesday with a Presidential Certificate of Merit for using cardiopulmonary resuscitation to save a man’s life.
President Clinton signed the award as part of a program established to recognize individuals who save or sustain life as a direct result of Red Cross training.
On Oct. 18, Andrew saved Carl Davis of Santa Monica from drowning in a Palm Springs swimming pool. When Andrew pulled Davis from the pool, he was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Andrew, a CPR instructor with the Red Cross since 1991, began emergency measures, and the victim was revived.
