TWA Investigators Conduct Missile Tests

Still trying to test any possibility that TWA Flight 800 might have been downed by a missile, authorities blew up missile warheads outside an aircraft fuselage, an investigator said. They recently conducted their test on a Boeing 747 jetliner in the Southwest, comparing its holes and marks with damage done to the jet that exploded off Long Island 11 months ago, claiming 230 lives. Investigators say they still consider a mechanical failure the likely cause.
