Rail fans who long to take a luxury train tour but can’t afford the longer itineraries might consider a new three-day Rockies trip offered jointly by Seattle-based American Orient Express Railway Co. and Amtrak. Fourteen trips between Denver and Salt Lake City are planned from July 10 through Aug. 7, using restored cars from the 1940s and 1950s. Prices range from $1,295 to $1,855 per person, double occupancy, including sleeping car accommodations, all meals, nightly live entertainment, round-trip air fare from various U.S. cities and airport transfers. American Orient Express trips normally are six days or more, priced at $2,590 to $5,090 for six days, without air fare, an Amtrak spokeswoman said. Reservations: (800) 321-8684.
