Architects Honor City Redevelopment Efforts

The city has received the Urban Design Honor Award for its efforts in redeveloping downtown. The award, given by the American Institute of Architects California Council, was recently presented to the City Council.

After decades of work, Mayor Tom Daly said, downtown revitalization efforts are moving closer to completion. He cited the development of homes, a community ice-skating rink and a new post office. Downtown has also been developed with high-rise office buildings, retail shops and restaurants.

“We are still not where we want to be,” said Elisa Stipkovich, executive director of the city’s Redevelopment Agency. “But we’ve moved closer in the last six to seven years.”
