Vigilantes Solve Scoring Problem to Win

Bret Barberie broke the Vigilantes’ scoreless streak in the first inning with a home run.

From there, Mission Viejo had plenty of offense to defeat Tri-City, 8-3, in front of an announced crowd of 2,795 on Saturday at Saddleback College.

Barberie’s homer, his seventh of the season, snapped the streak at 21 innings.

Barberie also doubled twice and had an RBI single.

The Vigilantes’ Mike Smith, who lasted only two innings in his previous start, gave up two runs on five hits and a walk in six innings. He struck out four to improve his record to 7-4.

Mission Viejo is 9-9; the Posse, which has lost six of its last seven, dropped to 8-10.

Chris Briones hit a two-run homer in the second inning in his first at-bat for the Vigilantes. Alan Burke hit a homer (his 14th) to lead off the third. Willie Moser hit a two-run blast in the sixth, his fourth, and was two for five with three RBIs.
