In another widely followed corporate ranking, streamlined, refocused Rockwell International Corp. has been selected by IndustryWeek magazine as one of the nation’s 100 best-managed companies of 1997.
The trade journal cited Rockwell’s shift from defense, aerospace and industrial pursuits to commercial electronics and said the transformation has positioned it for future growth.
“The one-time maker of the B-1 bomber--once closely tied to the ups and downs of defense spending--has completed more than 50 acquisitions and 30 divestitures since 1984 to reshape itself as a major electronics business,” the magazine noted in its top 100 issue this month.
Rockwell, which is shifting its corporate headquarters Tuesday to Costa Mesa from Seal Beach, has 44,000 employees worldwide in its industrial automation, semiconductor systems and avionics and communications units. It anticipates sales of more than $8 billion for fiscal 1997.
