Ernest Ulisse; WWII Vet, Carpenter

Ernest Ulisse, a World War II veteran and longtime Ventura County resident, died Thursday at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo after a lengthy illness. The Camarillo resident was 76.

Born Aug. 3, 1921 in Hopedale, Ohio, Ulisse lived in Slickville, Pa., before moving to Ventura County 36 years ago.

He was a retired carpenter and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Ulisse was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the American Legion Post 18 of Slickville for 47 years.

He also belonged to the Sons of Columbus in Export, Pa., and St. Mary Magdalen Parish of Camarillo.

Ulisse had a passion for hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he was married to for 49 years; a daughter, Annette Renga, of Camarillo; two sisters, Antonette Vallosia of Vandergrift, Pa., and Theresa Pisoni of Cadagon, Pa.; two brothers, Joseph of Slickville and James of North Olmsted, Ohio.; and three grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the donor’s favorite charity.

Viewing will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at the Pierce Brothers Griffin Chapel in Camarillo with a memorial service to follow.
