Msgr. John Beattie; Catholic Leader in Los Angeles

Msgr. John Beattie, 55, former chairman of the Council of Catholic Priests in Los Angeles. Beattie chaired the Los Angeles Archdiocesan Council of Priests in 1992 and had been its treasurer. He had also been dean of the archdiocese’s deanery. Since 1987, Beattie had been pastor of St. Ambrose Church in West Hollywood. He was a former chaplain of the Torrance Police Department and served California churches throughout his career. In addition to St. Ambrose, he was pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish in Santa Maria, St. John Fisher Parish in Palos Verdes, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Los Nietos, St. Finbar Parish in Burbank and Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Claremont. On Wednesday in Los Angeles.
