Show of Force by NATO in Bosnia

PALE, Bosnia-Herzegovina — NATO troops staged a show of force with armored personnel carriers and a helicopter near the home of war crimes suspect and former Bosnian Serb President Radovan Karadzic on Saturday.
Witnesses said eight French armored personnel carriers and Italian vehicles were involved in the action near Karadzic’s home in Pale.
The soldiers withdrew after an hour, and it was not known if Karadzic was home at the time.
Karadzic is wanted by a U.N. tribunal for atrocities committed during the Bosnian war.
Sentiments against the North Atlantic Treaty Organization in Bosnia-Herzegovina have intensified after a July 10 raid targeted two war crimes suspects.
Just before midnight Friday, a U.S. soldier was slightly injured in one of four overnight explosions targeting foreigners.
On Saturday, German newsmagazine Der Spiegel quoted Bosnian Serb President Biljana Plavsic as saying that she may use police or troops to arrest Karadzic and his allies.
