Amgen COO Named to Healthcare Institute Board

Kevin W. Sharer, president and chief operating officer of Amgen in Thousand Oaks, was elected to the board of directors of the California Healthcare Institute.
CHI, a nonprofit public policy research organization, represents leading academic medical research institutions as well as biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device firms.
Sharer, 49, joined Amgen in October 1992 as president, chief operating officer and member of the board of directors. Before joining Amgen, he was executive vice president and president of the business markets division at MCI Communications Corp., served in a variety of executive capacities at General Electric and was a consultant for McKinsey & Co.
Sharer received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy. He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.
