The city’s TreePower program will celebrate its 100th tree planting today by adding 140 shade trees at sites in central and west Anaheim.
TreePower, a program partnered by the city’s Public Utilities and Community Services departments, aims to teach homeowners to plant shade trees as a natural way to save energy and cool homes.
Since October 1992, 7,685 trees have been planted.
Residents can receive up to three free trees from a choice of about 40 species.
Saturday’s event includes a tree-planting demonstration at 9 a.m. at 903 Lamark Drive, near Orangewood Avenue and West Street, south of Anaheim Convention Center.
Volunteers are needed to help plant. Information: (714) 491-8733.
