Breakup of 310 Area Code to Be Topic of Meetings
- Share via
Hearings will be held Wednesday in Culver City and Thursday in West Hollywood to discuss the proposed breakup of the 310 area code, the state Public Utilities Commission said.
Steve Getzug, spokesman for an ad hoc coalition of about two dozen business owners and civic leaders opposed to splitting the 310 area code, said the coalition is pushing the panel for an overlay area code, similar to those tried out in Maryland and New York.
Overlay codes are assigned to new customers within an existing area code. No overlay codes have been assigned in California, he said.
Wednesday’s meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Culver City council chambers, 9770 Culver Blvd. Thursday’s session will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at 1020 N. San Vicente Blvd. in West Hollywood.
