Kariya and Team Remain Far Apart

General Manager Jack Ferreira said Monday that he and Paul Kariya’s agent, Don Baizley, remain far apart on a new contract for the restricted free agent.
“We’re not in agreement on anything,” Ferreira said.
Meanwhile, Baizley said Kariya has no immediate plans to join Team Canada to begin Olympic workouts.

Left wing Brent Severyn, sidelined since Oct. 25 because of a herniated disk in his back, said he does not expect to resume skating for at least two weeks.
“They don’t even want me breathing hard, so I don’t hurt it,” Severyn said. “I just started riding the [stationary] bike. I’m just a nerd now. I’ve been working on my computer.”

Update--Neither team is streaking in the right direction. The Ducks were 0-3-1 on their recent four-game homestand. The Sharks have lost three in a row after defeating the Ducks, 6-4, Nov. 10 at the Pond. The Sharks are 2-7-1 in the last 10. San Jose center Bernie Nicholls has been sidelined three games after suffering a broken thumb against the Ducks. His status is doubtful. The Ducks have won seven in a row at San Jose dating to March 6, 1994. Teemu Selanne has scored 25 goals in 23 games against San Jose. Selanne also has three hat tricks against the Sharks. Defenseman Dmitri Mironov has missed consecutive games because of a strained chest muscle.
