The state cross-country championships will be Saturday at Fresno’s Woodward Park. Katella’s Jill Santibanez will compete for the Division II individual title, and Buena Park’s Heather Garritson will try to improve on her second-place finish last season in Division III.
St. Margaret’s Ryan Downey has a chance to repeat as Division V boys’ champion but will have a difficult time after aggravating a hip injury, which almost made him miss qualifying.
The Woodbridge girls’ team, led by Mary Moore, who finished seventh last season, will battle for the Division II team title. The Mission Viejo boys’ team, led by Mark Gleason, who finished fourth last year, is in the running for the Division II championship.
The first race begins at 8:30 a.m. and the final race will start at 1:25 p.m.
