Harbor 29, Ventura 23--The Pirates took a 17-0 lead seven minutes into the game but fell to the Seahawks (4-1) in a Western State Conference interdivisional game at Ventura High in which all the scoring came in the first half.
Brandon Scott gave Ventura a 7-0 lead when he ran 61 yards for a touchdown 1:45 into the game.
The Pirates’ next score was set up by Bobby Bass’ interception. Five plays later, Donnell Wickett caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Bartley for a 14-0 lead and Ventura (0-4) tacked on 43-yard field goal by Jeff Collins.
Harbor answered with 21 consecutive points on a 14-yard touchdown run by Ricardo Diaz, a 23-yard touchdown pass from Jack Hawley to Mark Pappas and a 26-yard fumble return for a touchdown by David Jones.
Ventura regained the lead, 23-21, with 3:54 left in the second quarter on Scott’s 54-yard touchdown run.
Harbor scored the final points when Pappas caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Hawley for with 20 seconds left in the half.
Scott rushed for 226 in 29 carries and Bartley completed nine of 22 passes for 91 yards.
Hawley completed 19 of 37 for 165 yards and had three passes intercepted, all by Bass.
