Volunteers and donors are needed Saturdayfor the sixth annual SERVE event at Ventura High School, when the community participates in cleaning and repairing the campus.
An estimated 2,500 volunteers have helped at past SERVE (Students Earning Revenue for VHS Enrichment) days, donating about $95,000 for refurbished classrooms as well as student activities and athletics. Volunteers perform such work as weeding, tree-trimming, polishing, sanding and painting, according to organizer Denise Derse.
“For the kids, it’s such a wonderful investment,” said Derse. “They feel good about it, and they get something back. And the schools look great.”
In addition to volunteers and donations, there is a need for old T-shirts, work gloves, squeegees and shovels.
For more information, call Derse at 659-5666 or Judy Friedrich at 647-3001.
