Top Players Advance In Wheelchair Tennis

The top-seeded players in the men’s and women’s divisions advanced through their opening-round matches at the U.S. Open of Wheelchair Tennis Tuesday at the Racquet Club of Irvine.
Ricky Molier of the Netherlands, the world’s top-ranked wheelchair tennis player, defeated Germany’s Ralph Weisang, 6-3, 6-2.
In the women’s division, seven-time U.S. Open champion Chantal Vandierendonck of the Netherlands swept Australia’s Branka Pupovac, 6-2, 6-1.
Corona del Mar’s Daniel Lachman, who is seeded ninth, defeated Daniel Amiguet of Switzerland, 6-1, 6-2.
Other county players included Fountain Valley’s Joe Perez, who lost to eighth-seeded Jayant Mistry of England, 6-1, 6-4, and Westminster’s Amy Knight, who was defeated by third-seeded Daniel DiToro of Australia, 6-2, 6-0.
