Bond Measure Foes Say Backers Are Stealing Signs

Opponents of Measure K, an $80.5-million school bond measure in Torrance, are accusing foes of stealing anti-bond measure signs.
Shawn Moonan, chairman of the K’s Not the Way committee, said he saw two people representing the Torrance Teachers Assn. tear down anti-K signs on Monday and place them in a van.
Moonan said he was driving home on Crenshaw Boulevard when he saw Alan Gafford, a political consultant for the Measure K movement, removing anti-measure K signs and putting them in a vehicle driven by William Franchini, the executive director of the Torrance Teacher Assn.
Gafford said he took down the signs, but called each property owner or property manager and asked if the anti-measure K people had received permission to place signs on the property. If they said no, he asked if they wanted them removed. Gafford said that property owners gave him permission to remove the signs.
Moonan admitted he had not talked to property owners about placing anti-measure K signs on their properties.
